Harlech Cubs and Scouts

The cubs meet on Wednesday evenings, 7pm - 8.30pm. We have activities such as badge making, orienteering, canoeing etc.
Cubs are aged 8 - 10 years old, they then move up to the Scouts. At present there is only a cubs group, but a few of the members will be moving up to the Scouts in September.
A trip to RAF Valley is coming up soon.
There will also be an annual craft and railway exhibition on the 2nd Sunday in July. If anyone wishes to have a stall at this event with local crafts, please contact Margaret. There is no charge, and lunch is provided.

The Royal St. David's Golf Club

This golf course is a links course measuring 6571 yards from the championship tees. It is noted for a succession of long testing par four holes and five short holes, which vary in length and direction. There are two par five holes. A feature is the large size of the greens. The last five holes form a loop through the dunes that provide a finish the equal of any. It has been described by a professional player as the toughest par 69 (SSS 73) that he knows.

The Royal St. David's at Harlech vies with the Royal Porthcawl to be the best course in Wales. Membership is open to both local and distant golfers.

The Historical Society

The Harlech Historical Society was founded in 1998 in memory of Dr. Lewis Lloyd, a prominent and widely travelled local historian whose books and lectures inspired many to take an interest in, and further their knowledge of local history.
Our meetings tend to be fairly informal, and there is usually the chance for an after-lecture chat with other members over a cuppa and biscuits, and then perhaps a drink in the local pub if that appeals to you, it did to Lewis Lloyd!
Indoor meets are usually monthly between September and May on a Tuesday evening, in the Memorial Hall, Twtil, Harlech, and often overlap with outdoor events between May and September, when we try to visit features and sites of general interest.
Programme:-
Our remaining programme for the 2007/8 season is as follows:
March 11th: 100 years ay Aber Artro, speaker Paul Morgan (followed by AGM
April 8th: Partisans in peacetime: poaching in the mid C19, speaker Einion Thomas
May 13th: Harlech Composers, speaker Dr David Craik

You may obtain a permit for a day, a week, or full season, allowing you to fish for Trout, Sea-Trout, Salmon or for coarse fish on any of our waters, provided you also have an appropriate Environment Agency Rod Licence.

The Badminton Club

Ardudwy Knights

The main aims of the group are to encourage tourism to Harlech, depict life in the 13th Century (in the castle if possible), raise funds for local charities and above all, to have fun!
We are a group of enthusiastic re/enacters some of whom have been involved for over 20 years. We are also bilingual.
Most of the weaponry and costume we make ourselves and are happy to talk to anyone at any time.

Ardudwy Youth Theatre

The Youth Theatre began as a dream several years ago and finally became a reality in September 1999. The team leaders all have different talents and backgrounds covering most aspecs of Theatre, Drama and Film work, which they hope to be able to pass onto the young people in the group.
The aims of the Youth Theatre are to give young people the confidence and discipline required for all aspects of life not just Theatre work, and above all - to enjoy themselves.
All aspects of theatre are covered, including property making, scene painting (great fun with juniors), lighting, set design and building, sound as well as stage work and stage discipline.
All of the team leaders are volunteers and the only reward is the satisfaction of seeimng the youngsters develop and work together as a team.
Meetings :-
There are meetings most Saturday mornings throughout the year and the young people work towards various projects includoing charity variety shows, seminars and pantomime.
There are two groups; junior school age ( who meet at 9:30am to 11:00am) and senior school age (who meet 11:00am to 12:30pm). Usually the seniors arrive early to do some work with the junior class!!
We have in our group several disabled youngsters and they play an active part in all that we do - in fact they often refuse help from other youngsters and leaders!
